 Synopsis
In 206 BC, the oppressive Qin regime collapsed under the assault of Liu Bang and Xiang Yu's anti-Qin army. Watching the heroic and beautiful Xiang Yu (played by Hu Jun) and Yu Ji (played by Yang Gongru) in their glorious love, Lu Zhi (played by Wu Qianlian), who was unwittingly held as a hostage, became consumed with jealousy and ill intent. To sow discord between Yu Ji and Xiang Yu, Lu Zhi schemed to have Xiang Yu lead his troops to battle on their wedding night, leaving Yu Ji vulnerable to betrayal. Once Xiang Yu departed, Yu Ji fell ill from sorrow. Just as Xiang Yu was returning to Pengcheng with his army, Liu Bang attacked from behind. Surrounded at Gaixia, Xiang Yu's heart was filled with despair, leading him to sing the poignant verse: 'With strength to lift mountains, my spirit covers the world; in this unfavorable time, my steed does not depart; with the steed not departing, what can be done? Oh Yu, oh Yu, what can be done?' This led to a heart-wrenching scene as Yu Ji performed the tragic farewell of 'The King and the Beauty'...
