Jiao Guiying (played by Fu Quanxiang) is a famous courtesan in the capital. She has been supporting the scholar Wang Kui (played by Lu Jinhua) for a long time, and later dedicates herself to him; their relationship is very close. Two years later, Wang Kui goes to the capital to take the examination and becomes the top scholar. He catches the attention of the daughter of a noble family, and blinded by profit, Wang Kui sends a letter of divorce to Jiao Guiying, who has been waiting for him to return home.
