An entomologist (played by Eiji Okada) is conducting field research in the desert, but accidentally misses the return bus and is trapped in a small village in the desert. He takes refuge in the home of a widow (played by Kyouko Kishida), where after being hosted, he discovers that the road to the outside world has been blocked. He slowly observes the various oddities of the village, such as how every villager must shovel sand at night to prevent their houses from being buried, and all water is regulated under a rationing system. The widow who took him in begins to seduce him with her body, attempting to rebuild a family with him. He tries to escape several times but fails each time, having to feign compliance and engage in work and the rationed lifestyle of the village.
