In 1990, a gigantic spaceship appeared in the sky above Earth, causing people to feel anxious yet extremely curious. After a period of tense waiting, the alien ship remained silent. Humanity finally approached it cautiously and forcibly entered the cabin, only to discover countless aliens. They were described as ugly, resembling shrimp, and in very poor health, weak and frail. It turned out that these were a group of extraterrestrial refugees who were eventually accepted by Earthlings and isolated to live in an area of Johannesburg, South Africa, known as 'District 9.' After 20 years of breeding, the number of alien refugees grew to 1.8 million, and conflicts with the surrounding humans escalated, leading to increasing calls from humans to expel the 'prawns' from Earth.
