The new Philippine director Kenneth Dagdan was selected for the "Mother's Nightmare" at the Japanese Dance Film Festival and the Multi-Country Fantasy Film Festival. It is set in the Philippines at the end of World War II. It lives in a remote family. Because her mother was seriously ill and had no food at home, the sister and brother traveled through the forest to search for food in the neighboring village. They accidentally met a fairy in an abandoned church to help them, and followed the instructions to let the cicada crawl into her mother's body to help treat the disease. The mother did recover, but it seemed that she was no longer her mother.The film is full of strong Philippine characteristics, integrating local legends, religious beliefs, war and colonial history, with the thrilling techniques of physical mutation and brain-piercing soundscapes into a dark fairy tale that makes people feel anxious.
