Sam (played by Gerard Butler) was once a laid-back drug dealer, and his wife Lynn (played by Michelle Monaghan) refused to continue working as a well-paid stripper after she found God and took a regular job, which further annoyed Sam. However, during each forced trip to church with his wife, his attitude seemed to gradually change. Until one day, he suddenly announced to his family that he would accompany a missionary to Sudan. His family was stunned but had to let him go; this journey completely altered the trajectory of Sam's life. In the nights of Sudan, Sam was always awakened by noise, as the villagers, young and old, rushed in one direction. He later learned that this was because parents were sending their children to a safe place to sleep, as the village might not exist the next day. Deeply shaken, Sam resolved to establish an orphanage there. However, in an unstable environment and amid the ruthless killings of enemies, protecting the orphanage was much more difficult than building it; Sam's journey was just beginning... This film is based on the true story of Sam Childers.
