Eddie (played by Tom Hardy) is a beloved news reporter who has been in a relationship with his girlfriend Anne (played by Michelle Williams) for many years, and they share a deep bond. Anne is a lawyer who takes on a case for the Life Foundation, and while checking his girlfriend's email, Eddie discovers an unknown secret about the foundation's boss, Drake (played by Riz Ahmed). As a result, Eddie not only loses his job, but his girlfriend also leaves him. Later, Dr. Dora from the Life Foundation (played by Jenny Slate) approaches Eddie, hoping he can help her stop Drake's insane crimes. In the Life Foundation's laboratory, Eddie finds evidence of Drake's human experiments and accidentally becomes bonded with the venom of an extraterrestrial lifeform. Back home, Eddie forms a symbiotic relationship with the venom, and together they must face wave after wave of assassins sent by Drake.
