 Synopsis
"Pride and Prejudice" is a representative work of Jane Austen. This work has been adapted into films multiple times, with this version produced by the British BBC in 1995. In 18th century English countryside, the Bennet family has five daughters, and Mrs. Bennet is constantly anxious, with her greatest wish being to marry off her daughters one by one. One day, news arrives that the young wealthy gentleman Mr. Bingley has moved into town, which excites Mrs. Bennet, who hopes her eldest daughter Jane can win Mr. Bingley's favor. At the ball, Bingley indeed takes a liking to the most beautiful Miss Bennet. However, Bingley's old friend Darcy (played by Colin Firth) is naturally arrogant and bluntly refuses to associate with commoners, looking down on dancing with the second daughter Elizabeth (played by Jennifer Ehle). Yet soon, Darcy develops a fondness for her lively and charming demeanor. Though Darcy admires Elizabeth, he cannot tolerate her mother and sisters' rude behavior and advises Bingley to abandon his pursuit of Jane. Due to misunderstandings, Bingley and Jane's relationship is in jeopardy, and Elizabeth also vents her anger towards Darcy because of this. In the end, will the Bennets manage to marry off all five daughters successfully, and will Bingley and Jane, as well as Darcy and Elizabeth, find their way back from confusion?
