The story is set seven years after the world has turned into a frozen wasteland, where the surviving humans live on a giant train that runs eternally. The train consists of 1001 cars and is divided into various classes. The wealthy elite occupy the front, while the poor are crammed in the back, and those who have been oppressed all their lives decide to rise up in rebellion. At the end of the first season, Layton (played by Diggs) becomes the leader of the train, but he discovers that Wilford is still alive and has boarded another train. Melanie risks everything to go out and stop Wilford from invading the Snowpiercer, and a new power struggle is about to emerge.
