Emily (played by Audrey Tautou) had an unhappy childhood in the eyes of others - during a health check performed by her father, he discovered that her heart was beating too fast and concluded that she had a heart condition, which led to her being isolated from school. Then, due to an accident, her mother suddenly died in front of her. None of this affected Emily's optimistic outlook on life. In 1997, the death of Princess Diana made her acutely aware of the loneliness and fragility of life.
