 Synopsis
The soon-to-be-appointed Cabinet Minister Steve (played by Jeremy Irons) lives a calm and comfortable life with his wife Ingrid and son Martin (played by Rupert Graves). The arrival of Anna (played by Juliette Binoche) acts like a powerful undercurrent crashing into this seemingly perfect family. Anna is the girlfriend of their son, but secretly embarks on a passionate romantic relationship with Steve. Memories of her disturbing teenage love with her brother have always haunted her, causing her to seek various opportunities to date Steve while still interacting naturally with Martin. However, when Steve proposes to abandon his family to be with her, Anna calmly refuses. One day, Martin opens the door and is shocked to see the two together; his shock and pain cause him to accidentally fall down the stairs. Steve hurries down to hold his dead son, while Anna silently leaves, leaving behind a middle-aged man unable to rebuild his collapsed life.
