Zhao Gangsheng (played by Leslie Cheung) is fed up with the life of organized crime and desires to wash his hands of it to pursue his idol, Momoe Yamaguchi, in Canada. His chosen path for immigration, however, is to participate in the chef examination at a hotel in Canada. Completely ignorant of culinary skills, he ultimately fails miserably when he is exposed for cheating. One day, Zhao Gangsheng meets culinary master Long Kunbao (played by Daniel Wu) at a restaurant, who advises him to seek out his old acquaintance, Boss Ou (played by Law Kar Ying) at the Manhan Lou restaurant for training. Unbeknownst to him, Boss Ou makes things extremely difficult for him and eventually kicks him out. During this time, sparks fly between Gangsheng and Boss Ou's daughter, Jia Hui (played by Yueng Yung Yi). Boss Ou is a disciple of the famous Chinese banquet chef Zhao, who specializes in the Manhan Quanxi banquet. One day, Huang Rong, the heir of the Niu school, comes to challenge him and later devises a scheme to poach all his chefs. At this moment, only Gangsheng steps up to seek out a master who can prepare the Manhan Quanxi banquet, who is Liao Jie (played by Jacky Cheung), a chef who mysteriously retired from the culinary world five years ago.
