In the 1970s, Roger (played by Ron Livingston) and Carolyn (played by Lili Taylor), a couple, moved into an old house in Harrisville, Rhode Island, with their five lovely daughters. Although the house was old and had a long history, it allowed the Perron family to experience the joy and happiness of returning to the countryside. However, their good times were short-lived, as a series of strange events began to occur, causing the girls to scream and putting the Perron couple's nerves on edge. Therefore, they sought out the then most famous couple, the Warrens. The husband, Ed (played by Patrick Wilson), is the only exorcist recognized by the Catholic Church, while his wife, Lorraine (played by Vera Farmiga), possesses the ability to glimpse spirits. They quickly identified the source of the negative energy in the large house, and to obtain the church's permission for the exorcism, they had to gather evidence of the existence of the evil spirits.
