The continuous war between the Autobots and Decepticons has brought great harm to Earth. To address this, countries around the world united to form a reaction force to eliminate Transformers, regardless of their alignment. Cade Yeager (played by Mark Wahlberg), an Earthling with close ties to Optimus Prime, defies the objections of those around him and the pressure from the government, choosing to provide refuge for Bumblebee, Drift, and other Autobots. During this period, he inadvertently acquires a badge, bringing the crisis upon himself. The missing Optimus Prime drifts back to Cybertron, where he is captured and corrupted by the creator of the Transformers, Quintessa, who orders him to return to Earth to seek the Staff of Merlin to destroy Earth and revive Cybertron. Meanwhile, Megatron reaches an agreement with the Earth government, joining forces to track down Cade and his allies, with the same goal of obtaining the staff that once belonged to the wizard Merlin.
