Miriam (played by Catherine Deneuve) and John (played by David Bowie) can hardly remember how long they've been together; they only know that every seven days, they must drink human blood to preserve their youth. Yes, they are vampires. John's sudden aging terrifies Miriam because throughout her long life, such a thing has happened more than once, and each time, the only thing that can end this aging is death. Sarah (played by Susan Sarandon) dedicates her life to researching an elixir of immortality, but unfortunately, Sarah's research cannot save John, and he ultimately dies. The beautiful and sexy Sarah catches Miriam's attention, but Sarah does not wish to become a vampire like Miriam. In defiance of Miriam, Sarah chooses to commit suicide, and standing next to Sarah's corpse, Miriam knows that she will once again fall into endless loneliness and solitude.
