 Synopsis
In 1927, the film "The Royal Rascal," starring Don Lockwood (played by Gene Kelly) and Lina Lamont (played by Jean Hagen), had its premiere in Hollywood. Due to Lina's jarring voice not matching her dazzling appearance, the publicity department had to arrange for Don to be the only one to speak. After the premiere, due to a flat tire on pianist Cosmo Brown's (played by Donald O'Connor) car, Don unexpectedly met the talented and beautiful dancer Kathy Selden (played by Debbie Reynolds), and he was deeply attracted to her. A few weeks later, the first talking picture, "The Jazz Singer," became a hit, forcing Don and Lina's new film "The Duelist" to change its filming approach. Meanwhile, Kathy also became a musical film actress. Due to the poor reception in previews, Cosmo suggested turning "The Duelist" into a musical, with Kathy dubbing for Lina, to which Kathy enthusiastically agreed. After kissing Kathy goodbye, Don joyously sang and danced in the rain. Will Cosmo's plan work? Will Kathy, who is behind the scenes, be able to step forward and receive the applause of the audience?
