Poland's first 3D film, "The Battle of Warsaw," will be released on September 23. The film reflects the famous battle in 1920 when the Polish people resisted the invasion of the Soviet Red Army. It cost about 8.3 million dollars, making it one of the highest-invested films in Polish history. Poland, which is often caught between the two most militaristic countries in the world, Germany and Russia, is colloquially known as Europe’s "doormat"—everyone steps on it. It is precisely this troubled country that has a special affinity for history. Looking at box office revenues, the four highest-grossing films in Polish history—"With Sword and Fire," "Mr. Tadeusz," "Where Are You Going," and "The Katyn Massacre"—are all based on historical events. The grandeur of Poland's national aspirations can only be expressed and expanded through the art form of film. Although "The Battle of Warsaw" may not be particularly extraordinary, the magnificent trailer shows Polish poets, singers, and priests all rising up, portraying the two Soviet leaders with a seemingly carefree attitude, revealing a hint of unrestrained spirit.
