Ning Caichen (played by Leslie Cheung) and Yan Chixia (played by Wu Ma) bury Xiao Qian's ashes and then part ways. Ning Caichen returns to the world during a time when treacherous officials are in power, the court is in chaos, and the people are suffering. He accidentally enters a dark tavern and is nearly killed, but is then mistakenly caught by a constable and imprisoned, where he meets the renowned scholar Zhuge Wulong (played by Gu Feng), who saves him. After escaping from prison, he passes by an abandoned temple, where he is entangled by the young and cunning Taoist priest Zhiqiu Yiye (played by Jacky Cheung), leading to constant misunderstandings. In the eerie mountain villa, a massive corpse is hidden, but before it appears, a group of ghostly figures in white emerges.
