The story takes place in the mid-19th century, where the residents of the northeast region of Victoria live miserable lives, and Ned Kelly (played by Heath Ledger) is one of them. From a young age, Ned witnessed the incompetence and corruption of the law enforcement. At the age of 16, he was imprisoned on unfounded charges, an experience that caused Ned to mature quickly into a reliable figure who could bear the burdens of his family. However, this peaceful life did not last long. When a policeman attempted to assault Ned's sister, Kate (played by Kerry Condon), a furious Ned assaulted the policeman. As a result of this incident, Ned began a life of exile, teaming up with his friends Steve (played by Philip Barantini) and Joe (played by Orlando Bloom) to form the 'Kelly Gang,' a group dedicated to punishing wrongdoing. The existence of the Kelly Gang infuriated the authorities, who vowed to capture them at any cost.
