The Great Raid

At the beginning of the Pacific War, the U.S. military committed troops to the European theater and could not save the situation in the Philippines, resulting in the capture of 10,000 American soldiers and 60,000 Filipino soldiers on Bataan Peninsula. The Japanese army treated these prisoners of war brutally, and in January 1944, the military headquarters decided to carry out a massacre of the captives. This film tells the story that occurred over four days in January 1944. Captain Prince of the Rangers belongs to Colonel Maki’s unit, and they were assigned the task of rescuing 500 American soldiers from a POW camp during General MacArthur’s northward advance. Due to the merciless treatment of POWs by the Japanese army, this operation needed to be highly secretive. At the same time, Major Gibson (played by Joseph Fiennes) in the POW camp is struggling to survive and gather information from the outside world. Although local nurse Margaret and others are trying to assist the prisoners, a lack of medication persists. To execute the massacre order, military police officer Nakagawa took over the POW camp. Outside the camp, the Ranger soldiers marched secretly and finally reached their destination; the outcome of the rescue operation would soon be revealed…
