The story narrates the journey of scholar Ning Caichen as he encounters a group of bandits who question the whereabouts of two monks. Coincidentally, Master Yixin and his disciple are passing by at that moment, and the bandits, eager to seize precious treasures from the seven-layered treasure box, engage in a fierce fight. At this time, the female demon Xiao Ying is discovered by Master Yixin, who is trying to hunt her down, but she is saved by Ning Caichen. They eventually arrive in a town. The bandits, still intent on taking the treasure box, are once again defeated by Master Yixin. During the night, Ning Caichen goes to a brothel transformed by the demons to find lodging, but Master Yixin promptly appears to stop him. Forced to find shelter outside the city, he ends up at Lan Ruo Temple, where he encounters Daoist Yan Chixia. As they talk, Bandit Six regains his senses and recounts how he was saved by Yan Chixia after a band of bandits was killed by an old woman in the brothel. Meanwhile, the old woman is in her cave in a rage, threatening Xiao Ying to seduce Ning Caichen so she can consume him. Xiao Ying, having developed feelings for Ning Caichen, is reluctant to act against him. Master Yixin searches for his apprentice and learns that his apprentice has been captured by the old woman. The group tracks her to her cave, leading to a great battle where Xiao Ying aids in rescuing the young monk and defeating the old woman. Unexpectedly, Master Yixin goes berserk in the battle against the group, and they are at a disadvantage. Suddenly, Yan Chixia, the senior brother, appears in the town holding the seven-layered treasure box, defeating the possessed Master Yixin. Thus, the tale comes to an end.
