The Jingwu Hero Chen Zhen (played by Donnie Yen) killed a Japanese martial arts master at the dojo in Hongkou, Shanghai, as part of a campaign to promote national righteousness. After that, he changed his name and surname, leaving his hometown to work in France. After World War I, Chen Zhen, under the alias Qi Tianyuan, returned to his long-lost homeland, and as an industrialist, he got acquainted with Shanghai tycoon Liu Yutian (played by Anthony Wong) and the alluring nightclub singer KIKI (played by Shu Qi).
