 Synopsis
In 1940, the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression entered its third and most arduous phase. The Eighth Route Army and the New Fourth Army, led by the Chinese Communist Party, engaged in a life-and-death struggle against the Japanese invaders, contrasting sharply with the Kuomintang's attempts to restrict the development of the Communist Party amidst the chaos, thereby hindering the progress towards victory in the war. The New Fourth Army's Advance Corps captured the stronghold of Qiaotou in Northern Jiangsu, and moving further would allow them to embark on the eastern path of resistance. In this area under Kuomintang's actual control, many hardliners suggested launching an attack on the New Fourth Army. Meng Qiyu, commander of the Advance Corps (played by Zhang Zhongying), negotiated with Kuomintang representatives, successfully persuading Zhou Mingzhe, commander of the First Division of the Su-Lu-An troops (played by Wen Budong).
