This film is based on a true story. Nicolas Cage will play Colonel Charles Butler McVay, whose ship was sunk by a Japanese submarine torpedo in the South Pacific in July 1945, carrying two atomic bombs.Out of the 1196 officers and sailors on board, around 300 went down with the ship, while the others faced sun exposure, dehydration, saltwater erosion, and shark attacks while waiting for rescue. Only 317 were saved, and McVay was sent to a military court, only to be exonerated half a century later.
