 Synopsis
A severe car accident caused the young girl, Akane Sakae (played by Mari Sakurai), to lose her parents forever, and it seems she has gained the ability to see another world, which troubles her greatly. After a year of treatment, Akane is released from the hospital and by chance encounters the young man, Shinji (played by Ryo Ishii), who intends to commit suicide. Both having similar painful experiences, they resonate with each other and eventually come together. Seemingly influenced by Akane, Shinji begins to see the ghost of his deceased girlfriend from the car accident. On the other hand, Shinji has helped the police officer, Kazesaki, with a murder and dismemberment, and now he faces the fate of being killed by Kazesaki to keep him silent. Everything begins to develop in an unpredictable direction... This film is adapted from the classical rakugo work 'Peony Lantern' by Sanyutei Encho, and is directed by the emerging director Masaru Shimizu, marking the first installment of the 'New Tales' series.
