The story follows the gambling addict Kanemoto (played by Kousei Oosawa), who is deep in debt and at a dead end. Desperate, he is instructed by his mistress Yukie to murder her husband Kyouji. However, while attempting the assassination, he is caught by a neighbor. To escape, he flees the city and hides in the mountains. In the midst of a heavy snowstorm, Kanemoto stumbles into a farmhouse, where he meets a stunning yet mute woman named Akiko (played by Miho Ito). After an unbearable silence, Kanemoto temporarily evades the police's pursuit. The next day, the rightful owner of the house, Shinichi Yamada (played by Shirou Sano), returns. Kanemoto is shocked to discover that Yamada has an unusual relationship with Akiko... This film is adapted from Michiko Matsuda's novel of the same name.
