In the eight years following the death of prosecutor Harvey Dent (played by Aaron Eckhart), Gotham City effectively curbed crime under the efforts of Commissioner Gordon (played by Gary Oldman). However, Batman Bruce Wayne (played by Christian Bale), wanted by the police on charges of murdering Dent, has gone into hiding in Gotham City. This seemingly peaceful state is shattered by the arrival of terrorist Bane (played by Tom Hardy), who uses Catwoman (played by Anne Hathaway) to steal Bruce's fingerprints, putting Wayne Enterprises at risk of bankruptcy and leading to Bruce being ousted from the board. To ensure that the energy project investments of Wayne Enterprises are not exploited by evil forces to create a nuclear bomb, Bruce helps Miranda (played by Marion Cotillard) become the chairperson of the board. Bane's subsequent series of meticulously designed plans plunges Gotham City into isolation, and the day of its destruction is imminent. Bruce must once again undertake the responsibility to save Gotham, but the resignation of his loyal butler Alfred, the betrayal of Catwoman, Bane's brutal methods, and the true nature of his lover Miranda make the rescue mission seem impossible...
