During the late Ming Dynasty, the Central Plains and the border of the Jin Kingdom were engulfed in flames of war, with the demonic sect led by Ji Wushuang (played by Wu Zhenyu) wreaking havoc. The court and the martial arts world united to resist the enemy. The top disciple of the Wudang sect, Zhuo Yihang (played by Leslie Cheung), was rebellious since childhood but had exceptional talent, earning the admiration of his master, Ziyang Zhenren. Zhuo Yihang encountered numerous adventures in his youth, meeting the then martial official, Wu Sangui (played by Gao Xiong), and the mysterious wolf girl (played by Lin Qingxia). As an adult, Zhuo Yihang is a man of integrity, yet unable to change his libertine nature, unwilling to be bound by traditional morals. He acts heroically but often finds himself under criticism.
