Veronica Mars lives in Eptune, an ultra-affluent community town by the sea in California, home to millionaires and people who work for them. Of course, Veronica belongs to the second category, her dad Keith is the town's sheriff, Lao Mei's sheriff is a little different from the police, although they are all law enforcement officers, and the sheriff can be described as "private" in terms of establishment. Despite being in the second category, Veronica is doing well in school because her boyfriend, Duncan, is the son of a billionaire in town. Life seems to be going well, but suddenly everything changes, first her boyfriend broke up with her without warning and no reason, then her best friend Lilly, who is also her ex-boyfriend's sister, died, her dad lost his job to investigate the murder and is now a private detective, her mom also ran away from home, and she was drugged and raped at a party of her own, in Veronica's own words, Life is a bitch, until you die. Life has changed, and so have friends.
