Alan (played by Vincent Lindon) is middle-aged and has barely accomplished anything in life, having spent a few years in prison. Just released, he finds himself broke and, with nowhere else to go, reluctantly returns to his mother's side. The elderly Yvonne (played by Hélène Vincent) naturally disapproves of her disappointing son, and as time passes, tensions between them escalate. In an unexpected turn, Alan discovers that his mother has developed a tumor. Could this shocking revelation ease the tension between them? Aware that her time is limited, Yvonne does not want to end her life suffering from illness; instead, she seeks to take control of her fate and has chosen a 'place of death' to end her life before being overrun by the disease. Upon learning of his mother’s decision, Alan feels conflicted.
