The story takes place before the liberation. Si Tu Jun (played by Zhang Shunsheng), who is living in Singapore, receives a letter from a pilgrim named An Kang, claiming to want to discuss the information left by his father in Leshan. Si Tu Jun rushes back home and coincidentally encounters his old classmate, Wen Jianming, who is now a police chief. He learns that there are rumors that there are hidden Buddhist treasures around the Leshan Giant Buddha, and many have died as a result. Si Tu Jun’s arrival catches the attention of many, including the local power figure Sha Duoye (played by Ge Cunzhuang), who sends people to insist on meeting him; the Sha family's teacher, Meng Jie (played by Liu Xiaoqing), follows him secretly; and Wen Jianming is also quite concerned about his motives for this trip. Si Tu Jun searches for An Kang's whereabouts but is attacked by criminals along the way, fortunately receiving help from a mysterious benefactor. Si Tu Jun finally meets An Kang's true identity – his uncle Master Hai Neng. It turns out that years ago, Si Tu Jun's father had raised funds to repair the Giant Buddha, attracting the attention of spies, and eventually met his demise at the hands of the spies and Sha Duoye along with his friends.
