Mathematics teacher Arthur (played by Tony Shalhoub) finds his life in ruin after his wife dies in a fire. One day, Arthur suddenly learns that his uncle Cyrus has left him a mansion as an inheritance. So, he moves into the luxurious mansion with his daughter Casey (played by Shannon Elizabeth), his son Bobby, and their nanny. Just as they marvel at the comfort of their new home, an unexpected visitor, Dennis (played by Matthew Lillard), warns them that he has psychic abilities and used to work as a ghostbuster with Cyrus. The purpose of Cyrus's ghostbusting was to build a device called the 'Eye of the Demon,' which would use the energy of thirteen ghosts to gain predictive powers, based on ancient texts. The true nature of the mansion is that it's actually a medium device created by Cyrus, and Arthur and his family are trapped inside, becoming potential human sacrifices to awaken the demon...
