Oliver (played by Gérard Depardieu), who often has nothing to do and loiters on the streets, and his friend accidentally arrive at Elena's (played by Bulle Ogier) house to sell books. However, they mistakenly enter her studio—a basement filled with perverse tools. It turns out that Elena is a high-class prostitute who offers BDSM services to numerous men. After being drawn into a game, Oliver cannot help but fall in love with the beautiful and sexy Elena, and he quickly invites her to dinner, leading them to become a couple. Elena often receives calls from her boss in the morning, after which she goes to the basement to 'entertain' her clients. Oliver is unwilling to let Elena continue living this way, so he asks her boss for compensation and demands that he let Elena go. However, upon learning this, Elena becomes furious and speaks harshly to Oliver.
