In 2017, Earth was invaded by alien exiles whose home planet had been destroyed. Although humanity defeated the invaders using nuclear weapons, it paid a painful price of losing their home. In the nearly half-century that followed, humans migrated to Titan (Saturn's moon), yet a small portion of humanity remained on their homeland, hunting down the remaining alien marauders. Jack Harper (played by Tom Cruise) and Victoria (played by Andrea Riseborough) are among the stay-behinds, whose main task is to ensure the proper functioning of drones protecting water extraction towers across the land. Just as this seemingly endless mission is nearing its end, an unidentified flying object crashes in a remote area. Jack discovers several human casualties in the vicinity, but they are being slaughtered by drones. In a critical moment, Jack saves a woman named Julia (played by Olga Kurylenko).
