Five-Day War

The film tells the story of the conflict between Russia and Georgia in August 2008. The 2008 South Ossetia War was a war that occurred in Georgia in August 2008, involving the Georgian government on one side and the self-declared independent South Ossetia, along with its supporters Abkhazia and Russia, on the other side. Starting from August 1, there were several exchanges of fire between Georgia and South Ossetia. In the early hours of August 8, Georgia launched a full-scale military operation and quickly took control of over two-thirds of South Ossetia, surrounding its capital, Tskhinvali. Russian forces entered the South Ossetia region on August 8, and on the 9th launched military operations that quickly captured Tskhinvali and subsequently occupied Georgian territories and military bases beyond South Ossetia in the following days. With the mediation of the international community, Georgia and Russia signed a ceasefire agreement on the 15th and 16th, respectively, and Russian troops began withdrawing from Georgia on the 18th, marking the end of the war. This war resulted in 215 Georgian military personnel dead and 1,469 injured; 74 Russian soldiers dead, 171 injured, and 19 missing; as well as approximately 1,600 South Ossetian civilians killed.
