The story revolves around five main characters. Single Ted (played by Josh Radnor) is still searching for his soulmate and, after experiencing multiple failed relationships, he realizes that he no longer has the same faith as he once did. He unexpectedly reunites with his ex-girlfriend Victoria from six years ago. He wants to get back together with Victoria, but she tells him she is getting engaged. On the other hand, Matthew (played by Jason Segel) and Lily (played by Alyson Hannigan) are thrilled to discover that Lily is pregnant, bringing them both joy and nervousness. Barney (played by Neil Patrick Harris) is busy trying to win back his ex-girlfriend Nora, who decides to give Barney another chance, leading to their reunion. Robin (played by Cobie Smulders) is extremely jealous, realizing she still loves Barney... The show centers on the biggest mystery of who the 'mother' is, with the only hint being that Ted meets this mysterious soulmate at Barney's wedding. Who could she be?
