After spending the summer in Philadelphia with his mother, Dawson returned to Capeside, where he encountered a beautiful and cheerful young woman named Eve Whitman on a bus departing from Philadelphia. Eve quickly brought trouble into Dawson's mundane life. During an outing with Eve, Dawson accidentally damaged his father's boat, so he planned to secretly raise $3,000 to repair it while Mickey wasn't paying attention. Consequently, Eve helped organize a wild party at the Rillys, inviting strippers from the club she worked at. Meanwhile, Joey had been cold to Dawson all summer because he pressured her to inform on her father. On the first day Dawson returned to Capeside High as a senior, Joey realized that Dawson still had feelings for her.
