Hawking (played by Eddie Redmayne) meets Jane (played by Felicity Jones) at a dance, where they hit it off during their first conversation, feeling as if they were destined to meet earlier. Later, Hawking boldly invites Jane to the dance, which becomes the catalyst for their passionate romance. Unfortunately, after a fainting spell, Hawking is diagnosed with a rare form of motor neurone disease (ALS), and doctors candidly inform him that he only has two years to live. Tormented by the illness, Hawking falls into depression; however, Jane does not abandon him. On the contrary, after many ups and downs, they step into the hall of marriage, and Jane gives birth to a lively and adorable child. While Hawking's body quickly deteriorates, he achieves one academic success after another. To care for Hawking, Jane willingly becomes the 'woman behind him,' but this also becomes the first crack in their seemingly happy marriage.
