Master

During the Republic of China era, Chen Shi (played by Liao Fan), a disciple of the Southern School of Wing Chun, arrived in Tianjin and met the martial arts master Zheng Shan'ao (played by Jin Shijie). To establish his presence in the martial arts community, Zheng Shan'ao suggested that Chen Shi use the traditional method of having his disciples challenge other schools. After many twists and turns, Chen Shi married a stunning local woman, Zhao Guohui (played by Song Jia), and took in a local youth, Geng Liangchen (played by Song Yang), as his disciple to challenge rivals on his behalf. The couple temporarily resided in a slum to avoid being targeted by enemies seeking vengeance. Initially, Chen Shi and his wife looked down on the combative and lecherous Geng Liangchen, but they later discovered his redeeming qualities. However, with the involvement of the eighth dojo's director, Director Zou (played by Jiang Wenli), and military figure Lin Xiwen (played by Huang Jue), the Tianjin martial arts world faced a massive upheaval, placing Chen Shi in a dilemma between his desire to revive his family business through martial arts, his love for his wife, and his responsibilities as a master.
