This is a modern fable. The young Frenchman Lafayette and the middle-aged Italian man Nocharo wander around New York. Lafayette works at a 'Roman Museum' run by Fleckman and has a part-time job at a 'Women's Awakening Theater.' One day, he is raped by a woman from the theater, and he and Nocharo's living space is filled with the remains of mice. Later, he adopts an infant ape. In the process of raising the infant, Nocharo accidentally fills out the wrong paperwork, making the little ape a legitimate New York citizen. However, Nocharo ends up committing suicide, leaving his possessions to the ape. Eventually, Lafayette finds the ape tragically consumed by mice. The woman who initially raped him becomes his girlfriend. Fleckman, who has always disliked monkeys, in a fit of rage, sets fire to the museum and Lafayette...
