Michael Mitchell's seven-year-old son Chase was accidentally shot during a failed drug deal, and no one knew which of the two gunmen - Curtis 'Dutty Kurt' Craig and Raymond 'Razor' Carver from Detroit - actually pulled the trigger. Since both refused to testify against each other, the jury ultimately found them guilty only of drug possession, which means they could return to the streets in two years. Chase's mother had passed away from cancer, and Michael couldn't accept that his only child was murdered while the perpetrators remained free. To execute his revenge plan, he committed a brutal crime, getting himself, Dutty Kurt, and Razor sentenced to the same prison. Meanwhile, Dutty Kurt was determined to settle the score with Razor, who had already had a falling out with the prison head Eddie Mastermatic. As the showdown approached, a group of individuals including Captain Pearce the prison guard, the gay gambler Clever, and Michael's illiterate cellmate Smalls chose sides and placed their bets on the outcome.
