In a park in New York, Skip Hinnant's character, Felix, and his friends plan to approach three girls across the street. He deceitfully claims to the girls that he has a soul waiting for redemption and invites them to 'seek redemption.' He then takes them to a dirty apartment, where all four of them, naked, engage in their 'redemption' act in a bathtub. On the other hand, a cop, referred to as Pig, enters the apartment to catch a fugitive, who then hides in the bathroom. The cop bursts into the bathroom, and coincidentally, a pipe bursts, washing everyone away. Felix returns to his dorm room, but his roommate does not ignore his presence. He decides to leave and plans to burn it all to ashes. The fire spreads throughout the dormitory, destroying the entire building... The film is based on Robert Crumb's comic of the same name and is the first animated film in America to receive an X rating. It portrays an anthropomorphic cat in mid-1960s New York City, exploring themes of hedonism, social and political awareness, race relations, the freedom movement, and both left-wing and right-wing politics.
