'The Lonely Flower' is adapted from the novel of the same name by Bai Xianyong, directed by Cao Ruiyuan. In 1940s Shanghai, the dazzling dancer Yunfang (played by Yuen Yongyi), who navigates relationships with various men, develops deep feelings for the innocent and pure singer Wubao (played by Li Xinjie), and can only protect her with a motherly warmth. Wubao meets the charming young man Lin Sanlang (played by Tuo Zonghua), who has wandered from Japan to Shanghai, and the three of them weave a touching love story. Later, due to war, Wubao dies, and the two end up in Taiwan. In 1960 at the Dongyun Pavilion restaurant, Yunfang continues to navigate the world of men, until the appearance of the waitress Juanjuan (played by Xiao Shushen), reminiscent of Wubao, provides her with a temporary refuge for her unfulfilled feelings for Wubao. A gangster (played by Gao Jie) who is a regular at Dongyun Pavilion falls in love with Juanjuan and later provides her with drugs, leading her into addiction. In a violent frenzy, he kills the patrons who supplied drugs, ultimately spiraling into madness and being sent to a mental hospital. After it all, a song 'The Lonely Flower' is softly hummed in the air...
