Bird Street Island

During World War II, in an abandoned factory in a Jewish ghetto surrounded by high walls, the Jews inside lived and worked in fear, and their numbers dwindled as the Nazis would occasionally come in and take some away—first women and children, then the elderly, and eventually they would take everyone. Their fate could be imagined. In one round of purges, a father wanted to save his father and son, preparing to fight the Nazis fiercely, but due to a betrayal, he failed. At that moment, the grandfather stepped forward without hesitation to let his grandson escape. The little boy temporarily avoided disaster and hid away, while all that was left of the grandfather was a hat on the street. The little boy firmly believed that his father would come back for him, holding on in that abandoned factory, with only a small white mouse for company. When a person reaches the limit of survival, they can unleash unimaginable abilities and wisdom. Watching the film, I was always anxious for that little boy, who had no food, no water, and had to evade the Nazis and the remaining desperate Jews who were fighting for survival. Yet he persevered, even creating his own 'treehouse' like Robinson, observing the 'peaceful' world outside through a small window with a telescope.
