Kawashima Yoshiko (Anita Mui) was originally the fourteenth princess of Prince Su of the Qing Dynasty. To cultivate her as a spark for the revival of the Qing dynasty, she was sent by Prince Su to Japan to receive spy training under the wandering samurai Kawashima Naniwa during her childhood. Later, she was deprived of her chastity by Kawashima Naniwa and was commanded to marry a Mongolian prince in an attempt to incite independence for Manchuria and Mongolia, but she ended up in a failed marriage. After severing ties with Kawashima Naniwa, Kawashima Yoshiko came to Shanghai, where, with her beauty and cunning, she attached herself to the Japanese general Uno Junki (Xie Xian).
