Annihilara is one of many spaceships used to transport Earth's population to their new home on Mars. The passengers of Annihilara slowly realize that they will never return; they will continue to move through a vast, cold universe forever. Swedish Nobel Prize winner Harry Martinson wrote "Aniara" in 1956. This novel has been translated into various languages, including Danish, Finnish, English, Russian, Czech, Arabic, Japanese, and most recently, Chinese. It has been performed as an opera and in several theatrical productions, but has never been filmed.
