In 2018, the war between the Skynet system and humanity plunged the world into an apocalyptic state. The spiritual leader of the resistance, John Connor (played by Christian Bale), gains a new insight on defeating Skynet during a mission. Meanwhile, Skynet timely releases a new target ranking, placing Connor in second place, with his young father Kyle Reese at the top. At the same time, a strong man named Marcus (played by Sam Worthington), who has forgotten his past, appears in the ruins of Los Angeles. He accidentally meets resistance fighter Reese, and they team up to head to the resistance headquarters, but on the way, they are attacked by machines, and Reese is captured. The lone Marcus is guided by resistance fighter Blair and comes face to face with Connor, destined to meet, but the conflict between man and machine forces Connor to see the other as an enemy. Reese's fate remains uncertain at Skynet's center, while the resistance's high command refuses to delay the forced attack plan, leaving Connor with little time. He is left with no choice but to undertake a mission that risks his life and honor.
