Dutch ship doctor Dali (Xiaolin) temporarily stayed at Anping Port due to a ship malfunction. Thanks to Dali's treatment, Xiuchin (Yang Lihua) recovered from her illness. Dali and Xiuchin liked each other, and as a result, Xiuchin became pregnant. Just as Dali and Xiuchin were preparing to get married, Dali was forced to leave Taiwan due to the expiration of his residence permit. Before returning home, Dali gave the golden cross he carried with him to Xiuchin and promised he would return to Anping Port. Time passed while waiting, and Xiuchin's daughter Akin (Lin Xiaofang) was already seven years old. Dali had not yet returned, and Xiuchin, due to her weak health, passed away after explaining Akin's heritage, leaving Akin to rely on her grandfather, Wan Cheng. Fifteen years later, the graceful Akin (Yang Lihua) fell in love with Zhiqiang, a medical student from Taipei. They loved each other and promised to be together for life, but their differing family backgrounds faced opposition from Zhiqiang's father. Zhiqiang was about to go abroad for further studies, and he hoped Akin could wait for him to return, agreeing to come back in two years.
