Since 1985, a large number of scientists have flocked to the remote Carterhock Island, rich in pearls, to conduct various experimental studies. Until 1988, when a deadly flu spread worldwide, scientists summoned a group of volunteers to test genetically modified vaccines on Carterhock Island to save humanity. They injected a parasite into the human body to enhance physical strength; although the experiment showed initial effectiveness, most of the participants died from unforeseen circumstances.
