 Synopsis
In a remote and isolated mountain village in Japan, the young master Daizo (played by Yoshio Harada) steals all the clocks from the villagers and buries them underground. From then on, the village loses its concept of time and comes to a standstill. Years later, Daizo's cousin, Shouji (played by Tsutomu Yamazaki), marries his cousin Keiko (played by Keiko Shin Takagi), but Keiko's father had put a chastity belt on her years ago to prevent any illicit affairs. After many years of marriage, Shouji and his wife suffer from issues related to their sex life, and Shouji is ridiculed by the villagers for having no children. One day, in a fit of rage, Shouji can no longer endure the mocking and stabs Daizo to death. After that, the couple decides to flee, but ultimately returns to the village. From then on, Shouji begins to frequently see the ghost of Daizo and gradually starts to forget the names of things around him, descending into madness. In this village that feels like an isolated island, bizarre events continue to unfold without end... This film is the final work of avant-garde director Shuji Terayama.
